Christians in Responsibility for Europe

So, Frans Hoppenbrouwers of the foundation Communicantes recently visited the 17th Renovabis conference Free and Solidary. Christians in Responsibility for Europe in Freising, Germany (28/30 September 2013). It was an interesting gathering, meeting old acquaintances and making new friends… ‘Music to my ears’, as such he described the remarks of Renovabis’ general manager Father Stefan Dartmann SJ at the end of the conference. They underlined Communicantes’ plan to put dialogue between Christians in Europe at the heart of its activities.
Father Dartmann mentioned Countess Róża Thun (MEP), who told the participants in the conference that the “meeting places of Christians in Europe are a rarity”. Also, he encouraged his audience to leave any “Jammerkatholizismus” behind, a notion that was heard at various sessions of the programme. Warning that the Church should not become “the metaphysical cleaning lady of the State”, father Dartmann pleaded for a “renaissance of the Christian social doctrine”. If appropriately applied, it should allow Christians to become responsible co-operators in the “the history of freedom in Europe”. See
